Have you ever been at a place in your life when you were in a slump? Or maybe stuck in a routine, not seeing any results? (If you haven’t, let me just say…I adore you, you’re pretty awesome and I need to know your secrets, like……Tuuhday)
If you can relate, just know, I’ve been there too and….it sucks.
Not too long ago I went through a dry spell in my business. Even though I had clients and opportunities, I hadn’t reached my quarterly goals. I started feeling like I was doing something wrong.
Naturally, my paranoia got to me and I started questioning my strategies, making comparisons and doing other stupid things like forgetting to trust the process.
and then this happened…..
Three days before the end of the quarter, I woke up to 4 emails – 2 new clients who had already made deposits and 2 potential clients (1 now officially a client) seeking to work with me.
Later that same day, I received an email confirming my bid on a contract had been “approved”.
Yes, this all happened on the SAME DAY! Can you believe it?
I can! and here’s why –
Because none of these opportunities came by chance. I was nurturing my business all the while long, even when I didn’t see any results.
Imagine this…..
Planting a hand full of seeds on different days in different places around the world.
(Even though my thumb is far from green), I suspect these seeds will likely need to be cared for in different ways because even though they were are planted by the same source, they are planted in different enviornments or circumstances.
And while some may require more watering there will be others that may need more sunlight.
Some may take years to break the surface and others may never see the light of day.
But, the one thing I know for certain is, no matter the time, place or under what conditions they decide to grow, it’ll never change the fact that all those seeds still belonged to you. They were yours from beginning to end.
The one thing I value most about what I’ve learned throughout my career is that “success” (whatever your definition of success may be) comes in waves.
There will be high’s and there will be low’s while you pursue your goals – just like any long-term commitment – but that doesn’t mean your efforts should change during the low seasons.
Just like plants, people need time. They need time to think about whether or not they will invest in a particular project and more specifically if they are willing to invest in you! Allow them that time.
The most important step is…CONSISTENCY!
One of the most frustrating parts about getting closer to your goals is that sometimes, your progress may not have a voice. The silence of consistency can be discouraging and it can make you feel like giving up.
Don’t give up. Keep planting seeds.
My mom used to always say to me,
“Mary, whatever is for you, is for you.”
I learned as I got older, those words essentially meant that any opportunity that was really assigned to me was not going to someone else. Now that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t do the work. It means I should trust the process necessary in order to receive the blessing.
And all those “opportunities” I thought I missed….well, they were never mine anyway.
Final thoughts –
Don’t allow where you are now to prevent you from pursuing where you are meant to be.
Be consistent. Trust the Process. Give people time….whatever is for you is for you.
xo, Mary
P.S. If you’ve got someone in your life who might be feeling a little down about not seeing results quickly enough, please share this post. This post could help them find the strength to get back up again.
